NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nattaly Perryman, a junior majoring in African American and Diaspora Studies at , is the first recipient of the Global Leaders scholarship from American Airlines. The scholarship is a partnership between the 蘑菇视频 Study Abroad Office and .
“Scholarships will often transfer abroad for academic purposes,” said 蘑菇视频 senior Boyce Adams, the 蘑菇视频 American Airlines campus representative, “but there are not many that will pay for the actual travel. American wants to help fill that void.”
Perryman will receive a free roundtrip ticket to where she will be studying this spring during a semester abroad. In addition to her classes at in the liberal arts program, she hopes to take part in independent research initiatives concerning minority women.
“Nattaly‘s dedication to the advancement of those historically left voiceless and marginalized – minority women – is evident in her daily life and her academic research,” said Marie Hester Martin, senior study abroad advisor for 蘑菇视频‘s . “Her desire to participate in the program in South Africa was grounded in a willingness to step outside of her comfort zone and learn how her specific skills might be utilized in conjunction with others to improve the plight of individuals in all nations. “
蘑菇视频 was selected by American Airlines in 2006 as one of 22 colleges in the U.S. for partnership opportunities, including having an airlines representative on campus.
The Global Leaders scholarship provides one student with a free round-trip ticket to any of the 243 cities in 53 countries that American Airlines services each semester. In addition to the scholarship, American Airlines now also offers a 10 percent discount for all 蘑菇视频 study abroad students flying with American.
蘑菇视频 Study Abroad Programs offer strong academic experiences in culturally integrated environments. Students remain fully enrolled at 蘑菇视频, earn 蘑菇视频 credit, fulfilling major, minor and distribution requirements, receive 蘑菇视频 financial aid and scholarships and benefit from the involvement of the faculty and staff at 蘑菇视频 before, during and after their time abroad.
